Genre Pizza Reading Sticker Charts: Add pizzazz to your reading program with these pizza reading record charts. These pizza shaped incentive charts will help you to encourage your students to read 8 different genres of literature.
These reading charts will help your students read with pizzazz and to become enthusiastic about reading different genres of literature!
These Genre Pizza Reading Sticker Charts provide you with everything that you need to encourage your students to read 8 different genres of literature and reward them as they are making progress towards achieving this reading goal.
The 8 genres of literature on this pizza incentive chart include:
By using these unique reading incentive charts, you will be providing motivation and positive reinforcement for your students to read 8 different genres of literature in the time period that you select.
Your students will enjoy taking their completed genre pizza reading sticker charts home with them when they have reached their reading goal and sharing this achievement with their parents. The parents of your students will appreciate the extra effort that you have put into promoting reading different genres of literature in your classroom.
This pizza reading sticker charts set includes 2 pizza templates in color and two black and white templates to choose from. These pizza reading sticker charts measure 7 inches in width and 6.5 inches in height.
I personally like to print out the color templates. I cut out the plain pizza templates and give one to each student and have them write their names in the box.
I laminate these plain pizza charts. By doing this, later when I take each student's genre pizza chart off of my bulletin board, the chart does not accidentally rip. I also think that it looks impressive to parents to send home these colored laminated pizza chart templates when they are completed, so that my students can post them in their bedroom, or on the refrigerator, as a sign of their reading achievement.
After I have laminated these plain pizza reading sticker charts, I make a bulletin board display of them, along with the banner that is included in this set.
***z-bullet.shtml For the second pizza template, the one with the ingredients, I do not laminate this piece.
I give each student an ingredient pizza template and ask them to cut out their pizza in one big piece along the black border. Then, I instruct them to cut the pizza into 8 slices along the lines, and write their names on the back of each slice (during this reading program, one of these slices will fall on the floor, and by having the names written on the back of each slice, you will know whose slice of pizza this piece is).
I give each student an envelope to place their 8 pizza slices in, and they write their names on the outside of the envelope.
After students have completed reading a book in one of the genre categories, I give the students their envelopes. Students then select the correct slice of pizza, write the title of the book on the line provided, and then they go to the bulletin board and glue their pizza slice in the correct place.
I let my students choose the order in which they read their books and complete their genre pizza, so all of my students are reading different genres of literature at the same time for their independent reading program.
I realize that not all teachers are able to print out color templates for each of their students, so I have provided black and white templates. You can have your students color their genre pizza reading sticker charts themselves using the black and white templates.
Below is an example of the first template, the plain pizza. Each child will have one of these charts displayed on your bulletin board to begin this reading program.
Below is an example of the second template, the ingredient pizza. This is the template that your students cut into 8 slices and they glue each piece onto their bulletin board pizza as they read these 8 genres.
After students have finished reading all 8 genres of their pizza reading sticker charts, I give them a response worksheet to fill out. Students have to decide which was their favorite book that they read and explain why. There are two copies of this worksheet in color and in black and white, and there are copies of this worksheet with the two different ways to spell favorite/favourite.
Many teachers like to make classroom bulletin board displays featuring their students' sticker and incentive charts. These pizza reading sticker charts make a colorful bulletin board display and provide a strong visual reminder to students of the reading goal that they are trying to achieve.
Bulletin board displays and preparing them take a lot of time for teachers. Many teachers spend their valuable time cutting out large display letters or making a banner on their own at home on their computer.
This time is valuable and better spent on developing your classroom curriculum and grading papers, so I have designed a matching 5 page display banner for your bulletin board. If you have access to a laminating machine, you can laminate your banner so that it is durable and you can use it year after year for your bulletin board display of these Genre Pizza Reading Sticker Charts.
These Genre Pizza Reading Sticker Charts are a wonderful way to positively reinforce your students for reading a variety of different genres of literature. If you want to take this a step further and recognize your students' reading accomplishments of achieving this goal, I have designed a matching student award certificate.
You can present this reading award to your students when they have reached their goal of reading 8 different genres. I have designed color and black and white copies of this award for you to choose from.
Your students will be excited to take their completed genre pizza reading charts home with them, along with their reading award. Their parents will be impressed with the extra effort that you have put forth into positively reinforcing your students to read a wide variety of different genres.
Below is an example of the matching student award certificate that comes with these Genre Pizza Reading Sticker Charts.
Below is a photograph of my students' genre pizza reading
sticker charts displayed on my classroom bulletin board.
This second pizza template is exactly the same as the above set in concept. The only difference is that this pizza is divided into reading 8 different books, rather than 8 different genres.
I had teachers in the lower elementary years contact me that they liked the idea of my genre pizza sticker charts, but that they would rather have a generic reading theme to it instead of requiring reading particular genres.
I am not going to write up an explanation for this set because the majority of the explanation would be a repeat of the above explanations.
Instead, I am just going to show pictures of the templates and how they are different.
Below is the plain pizza template.
These pizza reading sticker charts are
available in color and black and white templates.
Write your students' names in the boxes, cut out the shapes, and then post these pizzas on your bulletin board. Your students are expected to read 8 different books in order to complete this incentive chart.
Below is the ingredient pizza template.
Students cut up the 8 slices in their pizza reading sticker charts and place them in an envelope. As they read a new book, they take a slice of pizza out of their envelope, write the name of the book on the slice of pizza, and glue that slice of pizza onto their reading pizza chart.
Below is the student award certificate.
After students have finished reading all 8 books of their pizza reading sticker charts, I give them a response worksheet to fill out. Students have to decide which was their favorite book that they read and explain why.
There are two copies of this worksheet in color and in black and white, and there are copies of this worksheet with the two different ways to spell favorite/favourite.
